Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom is almost dry as Disney prepares to transform the land into a Cars area.
Rivers of America Draining

Since our last update, a few more inches of water have disappeared, leaving just some puddles around the Liberty Square Riverboat track. The riverboat closed, along with Tom Sawyer Island, in July. The Liberty Belle was moved backstage, where it remains intact.
There are still full buildings on Tom Sawyer Island, though props have been removed. It’s also unknown how much construction has taken place further inland, outside of guest view.
Birds are taking advantage of the low water levels. We saw them scooping up fish.
The supports of the bridge in front of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are now exposed. It’s also obvious where the water line used to be on the fake stone above the supports. Half of the stones are blank white instead of natural colors.
The Tom Sawyer Island docks and bridge leading to the fort are also still in place.
As we previously reported, the mesh between Rivers of America and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been collapsing. The area next to the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure flume is now muddy.
Holes in the mud seem to indicate that crew members investigated the area.
Cars Area
The Rocky Mountains-inspired Cars area is an expansion to Frontierland named Piston Peak. It will include a river, water features, and barrel bridges in homage to Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. There will be two attractions, including an off-road rally race ride.
Disney designed the area with sightlines in mind. Guests by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or The Haunted Mansion won’t see obvious car architecture.
New original car character Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore pays tribute to the classic Disney cartoon character Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore. The human Ranger Woodlore was mostly featured in Humphrey the Bear shorts.
