Several exterior “samples” are staged, and a retaining wall has been built surrounding the future location of the Tropical Americas land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Thanks to bioreconstruct, we have an aerial view of the latest update.

First, bioreconstruct shared a look at the building where Disney Imagineering offices are located for this project. Several permits regarding the construction were recently filed, including three with addresses located in the remaining area of DinoLand U.S.A.

In this photo, several exterior material samples have been set up near the Imagineering offices. The samples are used to test how well certain materials will hold up to the Florida weather. Near the top right, several sections of pavement are also being tested. Multiple styles of rock, greenery, and fencing have been set out to test. Imagineers may also use these tests to determine how materials will look with varying levels of light.

Near the back of the Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!, a retaining wall has been built at the location of the future Encanto-themed attraction. Lots of construction vehicles, pipes, and other materials are spread out in the work zone as the area progresses.

In this complete overview of the future Tropical Americas land, it is clear that most of the current work is preparatory. However, there is a small patch of newly poured concrete just beyond what was formerly home to  Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, including TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, and the Cementosaurus.

The upcoming Tropical Americas land will likely have a much larger footprint than the former land, based on these aerial shots of the expansion into backstage areas.

Once complete, Tropical Americas will also include the first-ever Encanto attraction and a carousel featuring Disney animals. The land is scheduled to open in 2027Rumors previously indicated that the remainder of DinoLand U.S.A. would close in January 2026, with Disney further clarifying the land’s closing timeline.

The Boneyard at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will officially close on September 1, 2025, this will be its final day of operation.
