Special MagicBand Tapstile Effects Disappear From Disney World

The MagicBand special lighting effects on entrance tapstiles, including for Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members, have been missing for several days.

Since November 2021, Annual Passholders entering a Walt Disney World theme park would see a special purple and yellow lighting effect on entrance tapstiles after tapping their MagicBand, Magic Mobile Pass, or card. After the special effect, the lights would turn green, which they do for all other guests.

Disney Vacation Club Members saw similar purple lighting accompanied by a “Welcome Home” sound effect with their MagicBand.

Various MagicBands, regardless of who was using them, would also activate special lightning and sound effects related to their design.

All these MagicBand effects have vanished in the past few days. The Mickey icon now lights up the standard green with no extra sound effects, regardless of the MagicBand used or if the guest is a Passholder or DVC member. See the regular entrance lights and sounds in our video below.

So far, we’ve noticed this change at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney would temporarily deactivate the MagicBand effects in the early mornings to prevent long lines but the effects are no longer happening at any time of day. We don’t know if this is a permanent change, a glitch, or another explanation.
