The Downtown Disney District security plaza closest to Disneyland Hotel is now closed temporarily.
Downtown Disney District Security Plaza Closed

The plaza is between Din Tai Fung and the former ESPN Zone building. It was one of the easiest ways to go from Disneyland Hotel to Downtown Disney District, and then directly to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.

Guests will now have to enter the district via the new security plaza that opened to the south last year. Signs on the Disneyland Hotel side of the old plaza point guests to the new entrance.

Though the plaza’s blue canopy roof remains in place, all of the scanners have been removed.

We spotted an excavator at work, indicating that it’s at least a major refurbishment to the area. Disney eventually reached out to let us know it is a temporary closure and the security checkpoint will reopen at a later date.

Guests can still exit Downtown Disney District to the side of the plaza.

The west side of Downtown Disney District has been undergoing a series of closures, openings, and general improvements over the past few years. Following the permanent closure of ESPN Zone, lululemon will take over the space. In addition to the new security plaza, the west side got a new stage and green space. Din Tai Fung opened to critical acclaim last June.
Disneyland also recently announced the closure of the Pixar Place Hotel entrance to Disney California Adventure.
