A recent online leak has led to rumors that Disney has greenlit a reboot of The Muppet Show, with Seth Rogen named as a producer.
The Muppet Show Reboot Rumor
The reports of The Muppet Show reboot were posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @muppetsleaze, following a rumored leak by pseudonymous Instagram account @Deuxmoi.
The post includes an image of what appears to be a formal report of a pilot episode, which is scheduled to begin filming in mid-September 2025. The location listed on the form is Los Angeles, and it specifically references 20th Television. Other names listed on the form include The Jim Henson Company and Point Gray Pictures, a film and production company founded by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
A list of producers includes Rogen, Goldberg, and Michael Steinbach, who works for The Muppets Studio. The director is Alex Timbers, who is known for directing Broadway musicals.
There’s also a listing for The Muppet Show Pilot with the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s Production List, with a shoot date of September 1, 2025.
Disney has been linked with Rogen in the past, as a Figment film was announced in 2022, and Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures was developing the movie. The Figment film has possibly been cancelled, as Disney CEO Bob Iger more recently made a comment about a possible series or short-form videos featuring Figment.
At this time, Disney has not made any formal announcement about a new series featuring the Muppets or a reboot of The Muppet Show.
The Muppets
The most recent project for the Muppets was The Muppets Mayhem. The Disney+ series from 2023 followed Nora, a young music executive, as she helped The Electric Mayhem record their first album. The show was received well by both fans and critics, but was unfortunately cancelled after just one season.
Other Muppets projects helmed by Disney have included Muppets Haunted Mansion in 2021, a short-lived series in 2020 called Muppets Now, and an ABC series titled The Muppets that was also cancelled after a single season. The last Muppet-focused film to be released in theaters was Muppets Most Wanted in 2014, which was a sequel to The Muppets from 2011.
The Muppets at Walt Disney World
Of course, Disney also recently closed MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The film was the last project Jim Henson worked on before his death. Disney and The Jim Henson Company have indicated the film may live on in some form.
The Muppets will be finding a new home at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, replacing Aerosmith as the ride’s main characters. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is set to open next year.
