Disney shared the story of Dick and Cynthia Borrud, a couple who have visited Disneyland Resort every year since it opened in 1955, the same year they were married.
70 Years of Marriage, 70 Years of Disneyland Memories

Dick and Cynthia Borrud were officially married on August 21, 1955, just over one month after the Disneyland Resort opened to the public. They traveled by car from Mabel, Minnesota on their honeymoon, stopping along the way to see sites like Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, Estes Park and Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado, and Las Vegas, Nevada. After visiting Dick’s family in Los Angeles, California, the couple spent a day at Disneyland.

Joined by Dick’s grandmother, stepmom, and two younger brothers, the couple enjoyed the warm weather and the overall happy vibe of the park. The couple rode the Jungle Cruise, Mark Twain Riverboat, King Arthur Carrousel, and the Disneyland Railroad on their first visit, and also enjoyed a picnic lunch outside the park. Dick and Cynthia recalled how big the parking lot outside Disneyland was, and how the park guests were all dressed up (men in slacks and women in dresses and heels).

Since that first visit, Dick and Cynthia have made it a tradition to visit the Disneyland Resort at least once a year when visiting family members in Southern California (with the exception of 2020).

The couple’s Disneyland visits have evolved as their family grew to include four children and two grandchildren, and as the park itself evolved, such as learning to use the Disneyland app to plan out their visit.

Dick and Cynthia, 93- and 92-years old respectively, and currently residing in Ellensburg, Washington, also visited Disneyland during the 70th anniversary with their daughter Julie and their grandchildren Anna and Lars Enger. Cynthia remarked that the park continues to be beautiful and inviting 70 years later, and Dick enjoys connecting with cast members across the resort and sharing their story.
