Crews have started to remove scaffolding from the Angola colobus monkey habitat on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. The exhibit was closed off in early September. Cast Members said the refurbishment would last 4-5 months.
Monkey Enclosure Refurbishment
On our trek down the trail Thursday morning, we noticed there was less scaffolding in the exhibit. It’s still blocked by construction walls and scrim.
There used to be scaffolding around almost all of the wood posts, which the monkeys can climb on. During the refurbishment, the monkeys have been in an area closed to guests at Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
There is still some scaffolding visible. Though we don’t know the exact nature of the refurbishment, it appears some of the posts and supports were replaced and/or reinforced. The netting may have also been refurbished.
On the other side of the enclosure, there’s even less scaffolding. The sign next to the enclosure is still covered by scrim.
Some of the bridges and platforms the monkeys climb on are still missing. They will presumably return refurbished.
Angola colobus monkeys are black-and-white colobi native to the Congo Basin and East Africa. In 2020, colobus monkey Zahra gave birth to baby Douglas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
