Sunglass Hut Reopens in Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort

A longtime tenant of the Downtown Disney District, Sunglass Hut — formerly known as Sunglass Icon by Sunglass Hut — has reopened after an almost five-month closure.

Sunglass Hut Reopens in Downtown Disney District

The small Sunglass Icon shop on the east end of Downtown Disney next to Starbucks closed in early August 2025. It had been the flagship Sunglass Hut location at Downtown Disney District since 2011, when the space underwent its most recent remodel.

The reopened store has the classic Sunglass Hut name and branding.

The store has a bold black and white checkerboard interior with walls of sunglasses in individual lighted displays.

In the back, there’s an entire red-tinted room dedicated to Ray-Ban sunglasses. These include the Ray-Ban | Disney collaboration styles and Meta AI glasses.

Downtown Disney Construction

Downtown Disney has undergone several updates in recent years. Most of it has occurred on the west end: Tortilla Jo’s was demolished to make way for the new Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon and quick-service Pearl’s Roadside BBQ, and the former ESPN Zone building is being transformed to house multiple storefronts, including a new lululemon store that just opened. Finally, Earl of Sandwich is getting its permanent two-story location after three years of “temporarily” occupying the old La Brea Bakery building.

However, the east end has recently seen the beginnings of construction for the long-awaited Porto’s Bakery, which was first announced for Downtown Disney in 2022. It will be built on the site of the former La Brea Bakery building with an extensive patio that stretches into the esplanade. No estimated date has been given for when Porto’s is expected to open.
