Final Look at Jurassic Park River Adventure Before 11-Month Refurbishment

Jurassic Park River Adventure at Universal Islands of Adventure will close for refurbishment today and will remain so for almost one year.

Jurassic Park River Adventure 11-Month Refurbishment

Unfortunately, the attraction faced a delayed opening on its last day, becoming operational around 9:30 a.m. Shortly after the ride opened, it went back down due to technical difficulties. Team Members were posted outside to inform and entertain guests looking to experience the attraction.

The attraction’s rafts were also piled up just after the 85-foot plunge.

As we previously reported, the water ride is scheduled to be closed from January 5, 2026, through November 19, 2026. This means the last day to ride it was today, Sunday, January 4. It will be back open on November 20, if the refurbishment isn’t extended or doesn’t end early.

Jurassic Park River Adventure is part of the Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure. The “island” also includes Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Pteranodon Flyers, the Camp Jurassic playground, Jurassic Park Discovery Center, and Raptor Encounter.

This version of Jurassic Park River Adventure is the second, having opened in 1999, three years after the original opened in Universal Studios Hollywood. The Hollywood version was revamped in 2018 to become Jurassic World: The Ride. A third version opened in Universal Studios Japan in 2001.

As a water ride, it’s normal for Jurassic Park River Adventure to close for a few weeks in the winter, but this 11-month closure seems to be for a more extensive refurbishment. It has a number of broken effects that Universal may be planning to fix. Universal has not announced any specific details at this time.

Jurassic Park River Adventure Repairs After Hurricane Ian

In September of 2022, a hole was ripped into the side of Jurassic Park River Adventure as Hurricane Ian made its way across Central Florida. Intense flooding was also reported at the park. It took crew members months to repair the show building, adding weather-proof sheathing over the damaged facade. The ride reopened on February 4, 2023.
