More Temporary Structures & Concrete Poured in Frontierland at Walt Disney World

More temporary wood structures and concrete have been poured in Frontierland at Walt Disney World. The area is receiving a lot of work with the refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain and the addition of Piston Peak National Park.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Update

Several wooden beam structures have popped up since our last update, which suggests work may be done on the attraction queue.

Several construction workers were busy on the rockwork at the front of the attraction. Other scaffolding remains on the queue building, after previously having been removed.

We also spotted more concrete being poured to the right of Big Thunder, which looks like a future walkway or divider that will keep Piston Peak separated from the old mining town.

Haunted Mansion Scaffolding

While the area next to The Haunted Mansion looks the same, several land markers note future development.

While the area next to The Haunted Mansion looks the same, several land markers note future development. In the concept art for Piston Peak, this should be about where the walkway to Villains Land will be located. The inline suggests either further leveling or another purpose.

At the left side of the retirement home for ghosts, a dark green scrim has risen. The scaffolding behind it stretches beyond the queue on the same side, but considering the limited visibility of that scaffolding, only the one at the façade has been covered up. For a closer look from within the queue, read our post here.

Our reporter spotted a lot of construction workers near the dock of the Mike Fink Keel Boats. A new permit was recently filed for work on the dock, which could explain the activity. Take a look at this area from an aerial perspective here.

The coaster has new ride vehicles that have been testing, refreshed Audio-Animatronics, gold props, and an updated Rainbow Caverns opening scene.

Disney has not announced an exact reopening date for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, just that it will reopen this spring. The final track piece was recently installed at the refurbished ride.
