Following the announcement of Pokémon-themed expansions to Universal parks around the globe, a separate Pokémon-themed park is set to open next month.

The Pokémon Company and Yomiuriland – an independent amusement park in Tokyo, Japan – have partnered to launch PokéPark KANTO, the first permanent outdoor Pokémon theme park, set to open on February 5, 2026.

The new park, nestled inside the established Yomiuriland amusement park, invites guests to step into an immersive world of Pokémon, featuring over 600 different Pokémon species and themed experiences that span both natural environments and animated townscapes.

PokéPark KANTO is structured around two core zones:

  • Pokémon Forest, a nearly 500-meter outdoor trail that guides visitors through varied terrain where Pokémon can be observed in settings reminiscent of the games;
  • Sedge Town, a lively hub modeled after key locations from the franchise where visitors can shop at the Pokémon Trainers’ Market, visit the Pokémon Center, ride attractions such as a Dumbo-esque Pikachu-themed aerial ride and an Eevee-themed classic carousel.

In addition to rides and other interactive experiences, the park will offer some form of live entertainment and meet and greet opportunities with Pokémon characters.

The park’s design directly mimics the typical narrative progression of the many Pokémon games and stories over the franchise’s history. The entrance plaza will provide guests with an interactive experience as they enter the park, introducing them to the Pokémon world in the same fashion that fans are familiar with:

Step into the (entrance) plaza where you’ll find Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle all waiting. Once you have everything you need for your adventure, depart from the Pokémon Research Lab and be off on your PokéPark KANTO journey!

PokéPark Kanto Snacks

In keeping with the immersive Pokémon world theming, a variety of food and drinks will be available from at least two food service locations.

An article from Lifestyle Asia also shared a first look at some of the food and merchandise offerings coming to the new PokéPark area.

Drink options will include these three beverages themed to the iconic three starter Pokémon of the original Pokémon Red and Green/Blue games, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander respectively.

Fans of the franchise mascot, Pikachu, and the comparably popular pokémon, Eevee, can enjoy these two frozen treats matching each pokémon’s likeness.

Of course, no theme park is complete without its popcorn offerings. Here we have a first look at a popcorn bucket themed to Snorlax, a very large and languid pokémon.

Snorlax famously obstructs the player’s path at one point in the story of the original games – a scene depicted on the lid of this bucket, which is even accompanied by a miniature Poké Flute, an item used by players to wake the sleeping giant.

PokéPark Kanto Merchandise

A variety of exclusive apparel, plush toys, fashion accessories and more will be available at PokéPark Kanto, including ear headbands themed to various Pokémon favorites.

You can check out the original announcement teaser for the park in the video below:

Pokémon is a global multimedia franchise created by The Pokémon Company in 1996, a joint venture between Japanese game developers Game Freak and gaming industry titan Nintendo. The series is centered on fictional creatures called “Pokémon” that humans known as Trainers capture, train, and battle. The franchise includes video games, animated television series, movies, trading card games, toys, and other media.

In the games, the Kanto region is a fictional area inspired by the real-world Kanto region of Japan; it serves as the setting for the original Pokémon titles (Pokémon Red and Green/Blue) and is closely associated with many of the franchise’s most iconic characters and creatures. The name of PokéPark KANTO pays homage to this foundational region.

The opening of PokéPark KANTO coincides with broader expansion efforts by The Pokémon Company. As we reported last week, Universal Studios Japan and The Pokémon Company announced plans to develop a “world-class” Pokémon attraction at Universal parks, with intentions to expand experiences to Universal parks in the United States after the Japan debut.
