In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Kermit talks about the upcoming return to tv, on ABC and Disney+, of The Muppet Show.

The new special will follow Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and the gang as they return to the Muppet Theatre to produce a variety show featuring Sabrina Carpenter as the guest star.
In the interview, Kermit talks about guest hosting for Johnny Carson, vacationing on Magic Johnson’s yacht, meeting Kaley Cuoco backstage, working with Seth Rogen and what he would do if he hadn’t gotten into show business. Kermit’s also shared the “big honor” of having his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

‘The Muppet Show’ Revival Special
The Muppet Show will premiere on Disney+ and ABC on February 4, 2026. The Muppets once again will take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their special guest, Sabrina Carpenter.
The returning veteran Muppet performers include Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel.
The special was announced in September. Though it’s only a single special, it could serve as a backdoor pilot for a full revival of The Muppet Show. Its 2026 premiere coincides with the 50th anniversary of the original series created by Jim Henson, which ran from 1976 to 1981.
The Muppet Show special is directed by Alex Timbers and executive produced by Sabrina Carpenter, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Vogel, Jacobson, David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, Michael Steinbach, Albertina Rizzo, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee.

The original series “The Muppet Show,” was created by Jim Henson and ran from 1976 through 1981 and aired in over 100 countries. It featured notable guest stars, including Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minelli, Paul Simon and many others.
During its run, the series earned Emmy, GRAMMY, Peabody, BAFTA and numerous other awards. In a 1978 story, Time magazine called it “the most popular television entertainment now being produced on Earth.”
In 2026, “The Muppet Show” will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
All five seasons of “The Muppet Show” are currently available to stream on Disney+.
