Aerial Photos Show Significant Progress at Monstropolis in Hollywood Studios

Major changes are happening at Hollywood Studios, and the progress over at the future site of Monstropolis is moving right along. Over the weekend, bioreconstruct on X posted several new aerial updates on the construction sites.

Monstropolis Construction Progress

In this aerial overview of the Monstropolis area, we can see the expanded footprint of the former Muppets Courtyard area. On the right is the existing section that is transforming from Muppets to Monsters, Inc., and on the left is the footprint of the forthcoming coaster to be added to Monstropolis.

At the site of the coaster, we see that a concrete floor section has been poured on the left with a moisture barrier beside it. Electrical conduits are being buried, as evidenced on the right side. We can also see that some concrete flooring has already been formed and placed. You can see these where there are perfect squares in the sand in the center of the photo.

Here we can see the new electrical conduits being buried in the sand from two different angles.

What we have been watching over the last two months is a three-part foundation system for the ride building.

The above image was taken at the end of December and was the initial slab of the foundation system.

In mid-January, following that first slab, a layer of engineered fill was spread that completely covered the entire first layer of concrete.

And in the most recent photos, we are now seeing the third and most likely final layer of the foundation system, in the form of a slab being poured to cover the entire fill layer, starting from the left in the above photo.

In the original Muppets Courtyard area, we also see quite a bit of progress being made. Near the former PizzeRizzo, all the walkways have been upturned into dirt with various markers placed throughout.

Crews over the weekend were also actively working on the former Muppet Vision 3D show building to transform it into The Glob Theater. On the left side, we see crews digging, while on the right side, other crew members in lifts are removing brick from the building facade.

It appears all of the elements have been removed from inside the PizzeRizzo seating area. Crew members were carrying a ladder out as seen above. It appears that the area may currently house some equipment, as the areas around it are renovated.

From the aerial view, we can see the progress of the removal of roof elements from the former MuppetVision theater. We could also see that additional brick was removed from the facade, a project we’ve been documenting over the last few weeks.

Though Muppets Courtyard will soon be Monstropolis, the Muppets will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this summer when they take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
