Electrical and Set Permits Filed for Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Walt Disney Imagineering filed four new construction permits for electrical work and set installation at Animation Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The courtyard is being reimagined into the Walt Disney Studios, inspired by the real studio lot in Burbank, California, with the return of The Magic of Disney Animation.

One permit is for electrical work at the former site of the Disney’s Hollywood Studios archway, which was demolished soon after the courtyard closed last year. This permit contracts audiovisual company Solotech.

Disney also recently filed a permit for signage at this location and concept art (above) shows a new “The Walt Disney Studios” sign in a flowerbed at the courtyard’s entrance.

Disney has also hired Solotech for electrical work at the actual Magic of Disney Animation building, according to another permit. Another electrical work permit contracts Elite A/V System Inc., self-described “Experts in enclosure modification, panel fabrication, and labeling solutions.”

The fourth permit, still for The Magic of Disney Animation building, is for PCL Construction Services to “Install set elements”. PCL is a frequent Disney contractor also recently hired for other Disney’s Hollywood Studios projects.

All of these permits expire in one year.

Disney also recently filed a permit for The Magic of Disney Animation signage and for the Feature Animation building behind Animation Courtyard.

The Magic of Disney Animation is a new version of an opening-day Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction, replacing Star Wars: Launch Bay. It will be a “place where kids and kids at heart can laugh, draw, dream, and explore animated new experiences.”

Partially inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Emmy Award-winning short film Once Upon A Studio, the experience will include character meet and greets, the Olaf Draws! animation experience, and an Alice in Wonderland playground.

In the actual courtyard will be more characters and green space. Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! will replace Disney Junior Dance Party. It opens this summer.
