Walt Disney Imagineering shared a first look video featuring some wood samples for the new Tropical Americas under construction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The video stars Imagineers Kaitlyn and Lola, estimators with the Project Controls team who are in charge of budgeting.

The largest sample in the video is a square light wood piece with intricate floral carvings. Imagineering did not state where these pieces would end up at Tropical Americas, but a wood-carved carousel featuring Disney animals will be one of the main attractions. It’s possible this carved paneling will be part of the carousel’s design.

The other pieces visible in the behind-the-scenes video were long planks with different colored stains and a square frame. These could be used almost anywhere in the land.

The last phase of the closure of DinoLand U.S.A. took place this month, officially closing the land to guests so it can become Tropical Americas. The new area will feature the village of Pueblo Esperanza including the carousel, a fountain, and a playground.

The E-ticket rides will be a brand-new Encanto ride and an Indiana Jones attraction. The latter will be a reimagining of DINOSAUR, which used the same ride system as other Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland Park and Tokyo DisneySea.

Disney has already replaced a DinoLand reference at the park’s Mickey and Minnie meet and greet with a Tropical Americas graphic.

The new land will open in 2027.
