Steven Spielberg Reaches EGOT Status With Disney+ John Williams Documentary

Famed producer and director Steven Spielberg has joined less than 30 others in reaching EGOT status, meaning he has now won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Spielberg just won his first Grammy Award for the Disney+ documentary Music by John Williams.

The film earned the Best Music Film award, which went to Spielberg and his fellow producers Laurent Bouzereau, Sara Bernstein, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Meredith Kaulfers, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Justin Wilkes. Bouzereau directed the film.

Spielberg is the 28th person to achieve an EGOT. He has won three Oscars, his first two being Best Picture and Best Director for Schindler’s List. He won Best Director again for Saving Private Ryan. Hamnet, which he produced, is nominated for Best Picture this year.

He has 13 Emmy Awards, his first being a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Animated Program for Tiny Toon Adventures in 1991. His first Primetime Emmy Award was Outstanding Animated Program in 1996 for A Pinky & the Brain Christmas. He earned a Tony Award for Best Musical in 2022 for A Strange Loop, which he produced.

He’s had countless other wins and nominations, including for the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park franchises, and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.

Other EGOT winners include Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Robert Lopez, Alan Menken, and Elton John.

It’s debated whether Honorary Awards should count towards an EGOT, but if they do, Spielberg’s fellow producer Frank Marshall reached EGOT status in 2023.
