The faded fake rocks outside Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom are finally being repainted — the completion of a project that stalled back in 2023.

The rocks at the Tomorrowland entrance, framing the bridge, were repainted in 2023. The refresh made them a shiny blue-gray. But after the entryway rocks were finished, Disney never repainted the other rocks lining the land, leaving them a dull gray from fading.

Almost three years later, we’re finally seeing progress on this front. Painters were among the rocks on the north side of Tomorrowland near Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. It looks like they were consulting an image of what the rocks are supposed to look like. The supports of the rocket-like structures nearby had been wrapped in plastic to keep them protected.

For reference, below is a wider photo of the rocks from September 2024, when they were a little bluer, but the rocks near the bridge still stood out significantly.

The rocks were previously repainted in 2016, when they received their blue-gray hue. Before that, they were a natural red-brown color, which has started to show through as the paint fades.

The painting project may have resumed now because of the draining of the Magic Kingdom moat. The water has been mostly drained to make repainting Cinderella Castle easier. That means less water around Tomorrowland, too, and crew members may have an easier time painting the rocks.
