The Cinderella Castle Repainting Moves to Blue Roofing

While the Cinderella Castle repainting project may look done at first glance, there is still work to be done. Crews have now begun working on the blue roofing, which is currently a dark shade of royal blue but will be restored to a lighter color.

As we noted earlier this week, most of the castle’s 50th anniversary pink paint has been covered by a creamy shade of gray. Much of the gold trim was also painted gray.

There are still pink walls on the tallest tower, around the balcony where Tinker Bell takes flight during the fireworks each evening.

We spotted one more pink spot — above a cast members-only door on the back of the castle.

The castle originally had no gold trim on the back of the castle but there is still some above the Cinderella’s Royal Table windows. We don’t know if Disney is going to keep this extra gold or repaint it later.

There has always been a bit of gold on the castle, namely on the spires of the tallest towers.

We initially didn’t see crew members working on Friday morning, March 13, but then two pairs made their way up to the west side (closer to Liberty Square) in lifts.

We noticed some white spots on a section of blue roofing. It appears crews have started to strip away the royal blue paint.

When the crew members got into the air, one pair continued working on that same section of roofing, seemingly stripping more paint.

The other crew members were closer to the front of the castle and may have started a similar stripping process on another roof.

From the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, we also spotted a turret that appears to have a layer of royal blue color stripped from one half of it.

For comparison, above is what the castle looks like today, and below is what it looked like prior to being painted for the 50th anniversary. Though the lighting is different, the blue colors are clearly different.

The original blue had a slightly more green tint to it while the newer blue was closer to purple— although both were definitely blue. Also notice the balcony trim and emblem on the front of the castle is still gold but it wasn’t prior to 2020.

The gray bottom half of the castle was also painted a darker shade of gray in 2020, using a paint-by-numbers technique. The paint has faded since then and it’s possible Disney is going to leave the darker shade of gray in place.

The concept art released when the repaint was announced has the old shade of blue but it’s harder to be sure about the gray. The artwork also doesn’t have that extra gold on the front of the castle.

Below is the castle with its full 50th anniversary color scheme.
