Work continues during park hours, on the new Monstropolis area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as demolition is seen on the “Engine Company No. 1” building.

On a recent visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we noticed some new demolition work underway on one of the buildings in the rear-section of the former Muppets Courtyard area.

As seen in the photo above, we spotted two construction workers elevated on a green aerial lift as they moved along the top edge of the “Engine Company No. 1” building, stripping away the facade and revealing the metal studs of the structure underneath.

For a point of comparison, you can see how this building looked prior to the current work, thanks to this photo from bioreconstruct below.

Demolition work throughout Muppets Courtyard

This particular building, labeled “Engine Company No. 1” over its entrance, stood in the streetscape of Muppets Courtyard, situated just past the quick-service restaurant PizzeRizzo and just around the corner from the table service restaurant Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano.

The building was designed to resemble an old urban firehouse. The structure did not serve a functional purpose for guests, much the same as other buildings in the area, which were purely designed as stylized facades.

Similar facade work has been underway throughout the Muppets Courtyard area, including on the former MuppetVision 3D theater.

Construction work on the upcoming “Monsters, Inc.” suspended coaster continues concurrently with the Muppets Courtyard demolition. You can check out more angles on that development thanks to more photos from bioreconstruct.
