In the latest episode of We Call It Imagineering on YouTube, Walt Disney Imagineering shares an inside look at their inspiration for the castle aboard the Disney Adventure.
Disney Adventure Castle
“Nothing really feels as Disney as a Castle,” said Will Hastings, show lighting executive with Walt Disney Imagineering, in a clip shared by Disney Parks on Instagram. Imagineers had to do a lot of thinking about what the Disney Adventure castle should look like.
Rather than just giving the ship an existing castle or opting for hyper realism, the team decided to go with a pop-up book look instead. They wanted guests to feel like they “walked into a storybook,” Hastings added.

The first Disney castle at sea, the fantastical Storybook Castle, standing three decks tall, is the centerpiece of the Imagination Garden. Similar to other Disney castles, the one aboard the Disney Adventure has the Disney family crest, a hidden Mickey, and other hidden Easter eggs. There is even a decorative waterfall cascading from the base, a nod to the animated Walt Disney Pictures opening.
Imagination Garden is also generally inspired by pop-up storybooks, as demonstrated by the paper cut-out landscapes that fill the garden.
