In one of the first major decisions by new Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, ESPN will be kept in-house. The news was announced today, April 28, 2026.
Disney Keeps ESPN

Investors and analysts have argued over the years that Disney should consider turning ESPN into their own company, as ESPN’s profits were dropping. However, Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro has chosen to keep ESPN within the Walt Disney Company for the time being, though he may revisit his decision in the future.
It is hoped that keeping ESPN within Disney will continue to help with its ongoing pivot into streaming. ESPN will be offered to customers in multiple ways: Traditional cable and through streaming bundles with Hulu and Disney+. Disney may also look for other partners to take minority interests in the company.
In other Disney news, eight of their ABC stations are also currently being reviewed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
