Walt Disney Imagineering Shares How They Are Lowering Concrete Carbon Emissions

In honor of Earth Month, Walt Disney Imagineering shared how the concrete used for walkways in the parks is being innovated to have a lower carbon footprint.

Taking place at the Bakery Tour in Disney California Adventure, Caitlin (Manager for Sustainability and Design Strategy) likens the creation of concrete to the process of baking bread. By changing the types and amounts of “ingredients” that are added, less carbon emissions can be “baked” into the concrete. Disney Imagineering usually starts with small samples of concrete to test the reliability, since the walkways in the Disney Parks are heavily used.

Lowering concrete carbon emissions is just one of the many ways Disney is committed to sustainability. In honor of Earth Month, Disney recently shared how they recycle cast member costumes, help pollinators like bees and butterflies, and care for the animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
