Primer has appeared on the giant guitar outside Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The guitar will soon get a groovy makeover inspired by the Muppets.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Guitar

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith closed permanently on March 1. Crews then erected construction walls, scaffolding, and scrim in front of the 40-foot-tall Fender Stratocaster. A couple weeks ago, we saw some parts of the guitar sanded to remove the old shiny red color.

Crews have now sprayed a silver primer on the sanded sections. This provides a base for the new color scheme. While the guitar will still be red, it will have bright colorful touches inspired by the Electric Mayhem, stars of the reimagined attraction.

Peering through the scrim, we thought we could see more primed silver sections.

The bottom of the guitar’s neck is covered in plastic to protect it from overspray. The neck won’t be painted a new color.

In addition to the guitar’s psychedelic update, one of the piano keys in the flowerbed below will be painted gold inspired by Dr. Teeth.

The upside-down car at the other end of the guitar’s strings was also given a colorful paint job.

An opening date has not been announced for the reimagined ride but it’s set to debut this summer — potentially for Memorial Day weekend in late May.
