A Disney World tourist is suing and claiming he got bitten by bedbugs while staying at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort in 2022, according to a new lawsuit.
David Besse filed a lawsuit in Orange Circuit Court last month against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Besse is seeking damages exceeding $50,000. His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
The lawsuit is short on details, but what Besse alleges is that he was staying at the Disney resort on May 15, 2022, when he was “bitten numerous times by cimicidae (‘bedbugs’),” the complaint said.
He accused Disney of failing to inspect its hotel rooms and taking necessary steps to prevent bedbugs.
“As a direct and proximate result of Defendant’s negligence, Plaintiff, David Besse, suffered scarring, bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of the capacity
for the enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of the ability to earn money, financial loss, and property damage,” the lawsuit said. “The losses are either permanent or continuing, and Plaintiff will suffer the losses in the future.”
Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is a value resort located near the Animal Kingdom.
Bedbugs are “public health pests,” although what makes them unusual is that they don’t transmit or spread diseases, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
But bedbugs can still cause issues from small bites or, in more extreme cases, people can suffer allergic reactions, the EPA said.
“It’s important to pay close attention to preventing and controlling bed bugs,” the EPA said online in a 2025 story. “Experts believe the recent increase in bed bugs in the United States may be due to more travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices.”
