While Disney is slowly sharing updates on the ride experience, we’re also now seeing our first glimpses at updated paintwork on the ride facade.

Updated Paint Job Coming Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s Giant Guitar

Work is underway, both inside and out, to retheme Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to its new Muppets and Electric Mayhem designs.

Much of the attraction showbuilding has been walled off from guest view by scaffolding and extensive beige scrims covering the new paint work. On a recent visit, however, we noticed some early signs of the updated paint job on the ride’s signature giant guitar near the attraction entrance.

The revamped Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster theme will preserve the original ride’s oversized Stratocaster-style electric guitar facade piece that serves as the attraction’s visual icon.

The original guitar, pictured above, was finished in bright red with a white pickguard and outsized details like knobs, pickups, bridge components, and strings, all scaled to match the building-sized prop.

Hollywood Studios guests making their way down Sunset Boulevard to Disney Villains: Unfarily Ever After, can now spot hints of the new Muppets design.

The updated design, which takes inspiration from the band aesthetic of the ride’s starring Muppets band, Electric Mayhem, sports a more colorful and psychedelic appearance, with a playful mix of star decals and vibrant multicolor flourishes across the guitar body. The concept art also suggests that additional backlighting will come to elements on the giant pickguard.

While much of the oversized guitar and the rest of the showbuilding remain under wraps, we can now see some progress on the new paintwork through the morning light and a select few angles around the construction area.

From the left side, we can just barely make out the addition of the blue, green, and yellow flourishes first seen in the earlier concept art.

On the opposite corner, we can see what appears to be either blue paint on the highest point of the guitar body. Notably, this part seems to differ from what we see in the concept art, where this curve of the guitar maintains its original red styling.

Lower down on the same curve of the guitar body, this angle reveals a light pink hue extending down from the new blue section. This may indicate paint stripping work, rather than an additional color coming to this edge of the oversized instrument.

The upside-down car at the entrance by the guitar has also received a groovy new paint scheme.

The revamped ride will open on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26, 2026.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

It’s been a big week for news about the upcoming retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Not only did we learn the opening date, but we also now have an official webpage, the complete Electric Mayhem tracklist, and the celebrity cameos appearing in the ride. As guests “tour” the studio, they’ll see the celebrities on screens, as well as The Electric Mayhem posters and likely recycled MuppetVision 3D props.

The new version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster still takes place at G-Force Records, which was bought by Scooter’s uncle J.P. Grosse. While touring the studio, guests will see celebrity cameos in the queue. They will encounter The Electric Mayhem in the recording booth. Just like Aerosmith, the band is late for a concert across town. Guests board limousines souped up by Muppet Labs to get to the show on time.

Though dates haven’t been announced, Disney confirmed there will be previews for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets for Cast Members, Disney Vacation Club Members, and Annual Passholders.
