A crew member working on the live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 severed multiple fingers on one hand during an off-set accident.
Variety reports that the incident involved a saw in a workshop at Sky Studios Elstree in the U.K. The crew member, who was working as a special effects technician, went through extensive surgery, but the fingers were not able to be reattached.
More details are not yet clear. U.K. crew union Bectu and producer union Pact previously expressed concerns about health and safety on film and TV productions, linking many risks to workers being asked to work beyond their contractually negotiated rest periods.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 was announced ahead of the first adaptation’s release in 2025. The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on June 11, 2027. Like the first live-action film and the animated features, How to Train Your Dragon 2 is directed by Dean DeBlois.
The first live-action film was produced at Titanic Studios in Belfast. The sequel moved to Sky Studios Elstree and shooting began in February.
