Critical failures are rare on the Walt Disney World monorail system, but not impossible, as some guests discovered during this Easter weekend when Monorail Teal broke down.
EPCOT Line Closes

Monorail Teal encountered unknown technical difficulties while en route to EPCOT on Easter Saturday, April 4.
Reports from affected riders suggest the monorail suffered a power failure, leaving guests onboard trapped for “just over an hour” before being towed back to the Transportation and Ticket Center.

During that hour-long period, it appears that guests removed multiple windows from the passenger cabins. The windows are designed to be detached with relative ease in emergency circumstances.
While unconfirmed, the monorail’s air conditioning system was likely impacted by the power failure, thus leading to guests detaching windows to allow for at least some degree of air flow during their wait.

The incident also disrupted broader transportation service throughout Walt Disney World Resort, namely with the entire EPCOT monorail route temporarily taken offline while cast member responders tended to and shunted Monorail Teal off the line.
Disney substituted monorail transport by shifting guests to buses running between EPCOT and the Transportation and Ticket Center while the rail line was out of service.
Instagram user dudeitsroxy shared some reels of the ordeal from onboard, providing some details on the situation:
The current monorail vehicles, known as Mark VI models, were introduced to replace the earlier Mark IV units between 1989 and 1991. There have been rumors of replacements for these vehicles, but nothing has been confirmed to date.
Disney has instead continued major refurbishment work on the existing vehicles, although critical failures occasionally strike. Back in November, Monorail Silver encountered an electrical fire, leading to a similar delay and shutdown of monorail service.
