‘Monsters, Inc.’ Coaster Beams Spotted in Staging Area, Suggesting Construction May Soon Go Vertical

Progress has been moving steadily on the foundation and other aspects of the upcoming suspended Monsters, Inc. coaster, but new construction materials spotted nearby may indicate vertical developments are on the horizon.

During a recent ride on the Disney Skyliner, we got a glimpse at what appears to be a staging area for construction on the upcoming Monsters, Inc. suspended coaster coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The plot of land shown in our photos can be seen from the Disney Skyliner, specifically at a point along the line nearest to the EPCOT station by the International Gateway entrance.

Historically, this clearing has remained mostly empty and occasionally seen activity for non-specific storage or maintenance purposes. It now appears that the empty lot is being used for gathering and organizing support materials that look distinctly similar to metals used in coaster construction.

At least two cranes and personnel lifts can be seen parked near the collection of beams and supports. Metal girders and similar material can be seen collected in a corner of the lot, while on the far side, larger cylindrical support beams can be spotted lying on their sides.

All of this suggests that Disney may be using this lot as a staging area for material and logistical efforts on the new coaster before bringing these items on-site just down the road to Hollywood Studios.

The coaster’s show building is currently being constructed in the middle of the Cast Member parking lot in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The collection of material here seems to indicate that preparations are underway for major vertical work to begin on the attraction.

We got a comprehensive aerial view of the project just a few weeks ago, thanks to photographer bioreconstruct. For a detailed look at the construction effort so far, you can check out his bird’s-eye view in our earlier coverage.

Based on the door vault scene from the first film, the Monsters, Inc. coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and vertical lift coaster. It will be located at the end of Monstropolis, which is currently being constructed on the site of the former Muppets Courtyard.

The model for the coaster, including the track layout, was revealed at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024.
