'Animation' & 'Studio Theater' Signs Installed at Animation Courtyard in Hollywood Studios

Giant “Animation” letters now adorn the marquee of The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new version of an opening-day attraction is set to open this summer and the refreshed facade is inspired by the real-life Roy E. Disney Animation Building in California.

Though the real California building currently has giant letters reading “Roy E. Disney Animation Building,” it once just had “Animation” on its marquee before it was renamed. Compare the two photos below.

Studio Theater

Matching letters spelling out "Studio Theater" have also been added to the overhang of the soundstage housing "The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure." Disney said when they announced Animation Courtyard's reimagining that the building would be newly dubbed Studio Theater.

The sign was added after painting of the building’s exterior was completed.

Another 'Studio Theater' sign has been installed on the other side of the building, under the 'Walt Disney Studios' billboard.

Animation Courtyard Construction Walls

The layout of the construction walls in Animation Courtyard has changed once again. There is now an opening in the walls right outside the entrance to "The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure," but walls remain on the left and right.

Brown lampposts were also added next to the Stage 1 theater, although they are partially covered by construction walls.

The reimagined Walt Disney Studios Courtyard is expected to open on May 26 with the opening of the new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! stage show. An opening date for The Magic of Disney Animation has not been announced.
