Anthony Mackie Hangs Out with Make-A-Wish Kid

For Make-A-Wish kid Coen, 9, his wish was to meet Anthony Mackie, the actor behind his favorite character, Captain America (Sam Wilson). It’s not just Captain America’s shield and “pretty cool vibranium wings” that inspire Coen: it’s the courage that drives Sam Wilson as a hero.
At home, Coen loves playing with and creating adventures for his action figures, especially his four Captain America and Falcon figures. His favorite, a muscular Falcon action figure, was a gift from his brother. This made what happened with Mackie even more special.

During a special Week of Wishes “Wishes Assemble” event held at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Coen’s wish came true when Mackie made a surprise appearance. After handing out Marvel action figures to the Wish kids in attendance, he spent time with Coen and his family, even joining Coen for a ride on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, laughing the whole time. Coen enjoys the attraction for its “up-and-down drop moments.”

After an amazing day with his favorite Avenger, Coen was gifted with his very own Captain America shield to carry with him as a symbol of his courage. Of course, it had to be signed by the man himself!

What were Coen’s big plans after such a super encounter? Going to Disneyland with his family to ride Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean for a classic end to an iconic day.
