Universal Studios Hollywood has shared a closer look at the ride vehicles for “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” giving fans new details about the cars that guests will board when the coaster opens later this year.
Ride Vehicles Revealed for ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’
Universal recently celebrated a major milestone for the new attraction as the coaster welcomed its first riders during the testing process. Alongside the update, the resort also released new behind-the-scenes information about the ride vehicles inspired by iconic cars from the “Fast & Furious” film franchise.
The coaster will feature four different vehicle designs modeled after recognizable hero cars from across the series:
- Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger
- Han’s Mazda RX-7
- Brian O’Conner’s Nissan Skyline GT-R
- Brian O’Conner’s Toyota Supra
According to Universal Creative, the team worked to make the coaster trains look as authentic to the movie vehicles as possible while still functioning as high-speed roller coaster vehicles.
1970 Dodge Charger
The most recognizable vehicle in the entire franchise may be Dom’s black 1970 Dodge Charger.
The massive muscle car is recreated with its signature exposed engine blower protruding from the hood, along with an aggressive all-black finish inspired by the movie vehicle driven by Dominic Toretto throughout the series
Universal Creative said the team worked closely to recreate the look of the original car as accurately as possible, even incorporating some real automotive components into the ride vehicle design.
The Charger is expected to lead several of the coaster trains seen racing through the attraction.
Mazda RX-7
The orange-and-black Mazda RX-7 is inspired by Han’s car from “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.”
The vehicle features a vibrant two-tone paint job along with racing-inspired details including custom wheels, upgraded suspension styling, and a lowered sports car profile faithful to the film version.
Universal Creative highlighted the RX-7’s bold color scheme as one of the standout designs among the four ride vehicles.
Nissan Skyline GT-R
Another vehicle featured on the coaster is Brian O’Conner’s blue Nissan Skyline GT-R, inspired by the car seen in “Fast & Furious.”
The Skyline became one of the franchise’s most beloved tuner cars and remains heavily associated with Paul Walker’s character. Universal recreated the coupe with its signature blue exterior and performance-racing styling.
Toyota Supra
The fourth vehicle joining the lineup is the orange Toyota Supra from the original “The Fast and the Furious.”
The Supra is one of the franchise’s most iconic imports and features recreated side graphics and styling elements based on the film version driven by Brian O’Conner.
The vehicles themselves are designed without roofs and seat four guests per car. While the trains are themed to realistic street racing vehicles, they are built on advanced coaster technology capable of reaching speeds up to 72 miles per hour.
“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” will also feature 360-degree rotating ride vehicles intended to simulate the feeling of drifting through high-speed turns.
The new coaster is scheduled to open later this year at Universal Studios Hollywood. The attraction has already begun rider testing with Universal Creative Team Members, ride engineers, and programmers as the project enters its final stages before opening.
