Cheers to 15 years of Trader Sam’s — and a brand-new tiki mug inspired by the wild side of classic Disney attractions.

The First-Ever Imagineered Tiki Mug

Walt Disney Imagineering shared a behind-the-scenes look at a new mug created for the 15th anniversary of Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, with the design coming from an active Imagineer.

The post spotlights Rich, a Principal Concept Designer with Walt Disney Imagineering, who designed the new Trader Sam’s mug. Notably, this marks the first time in Disney history that an active Imagineer has designed a Trader Sam’s mug.

The mug is primarily inspired by the spotted hyenas seen in Jungle Cruise, and it’s a small world. The design features a wide-mouthed hyena bursting out of a barrel-like base, with layered woodgrain textures, carved-style details, and the aged finish typically associated with Trader Sam’s drinkware.

Rich is shown working on the sculpture throughout the shared images and video. One graphic shows the sculpture at various stages of design, breaking down the process from ideating to sculpting, 3D scanning, and 3D modeling.

Rich goes into more detail in the short video below, describing how he worked through a series of homemade 3D-printed prototypes before landing on the final design. The final result is the “most complicated” design produced to date by Disney’s tiki mug manufacturer, according to Rich.

The final mug – pictured above – includes a “Trader Sam’s” logo worked into the front of the sculpt, along with additional tropical details around the base, including greenery and pineapple accents.

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar opened at the Disneyland Hotel in 2011, making 2026 the location’s 15th anniversary. The fan-favorite bar is marking the occasion with a special menu in addition to the new limited-time tiki mug.

The bar is known for its immersive atmosphere, interactive drink effects, and collectible tiki mugs, many of which have become popular with Disney Parks merchandise collectors.

As far as Disney has revealed, the mug will be available only at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland Hotel, which recently completed a months-long interior refurbishment.
