While the anniversary mug featuring a laughing hyena is officially released tomorrow, May 30, at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, an early mobile order release happened today at Disneyland Hotel.
Trader Sam’s 15th Anniversary Laughing Hyena Mug
The laughing hyena 15th anniversary mug is a limited-time-only commemorative souvenir, served with the Barrel of Mischief and sold for $89 tomorrow at Trader Sam’s. However, there was an exclusive pre-release event today at Disneyland Hotel that allowed some guests to get the mug early.
With mobile order early release, some guests were able to get their hands on the hyena mug a day early, as well as meet artist Rich Kirchhoff.
Kirchhoff is available for signings today from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., as well as from 4 p.m. to 4:30 exclusively for Disney Vacation Club members.
Per his signage:
Rich Kirchhoff, principal concept designer at Walt Disney Imagineering, Anaheim, has contributed to attractions including Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones’ Adventure, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. He has a BA in theatre design and has worked at Imagineering since 2012. In designing this anniversary mug, Rich found inspiration from a photo of Walt Disney with a hyena at The Jungle Cruise as well as his loyal companion, Batou.
The mug shows a laughing hyena “sitting” in a wooden barrel. In front of the barrel is the barrel lid, which says “Ship to: Trader Sam’s Est. 11.”
These commemorative mugs come in tiki-inspired boxes with Trader Sam’s iconography on them.
Photo Ops
Beyond just getting the anniversary mug before the general public, guests at the pre-release also have access to special, themed photo ops. In the one above, you can pose like a Jungle Cruise skipper at the helm of your own tour boat. The baby elephant playing in the water can be seen behind you.
You can also look like you’re shopping at Trader Sam’s Gift Shop at one of the stops along the Jungle Cruise tour route. Perhaps you can negotiate with some of those pesky monkeys.
Some of the photo ops are also Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar themed, like the one above. You can either play the role of the bartender or a thirsty adventurer.
Lastly, you can take a photo with a commemorative photo frame. On the bottom, lefthand corner, there is the Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar logo with “15 years” beside it. On the left and right are wicker patterns, and the top and bottom have Tiki Sam’s iconography in various colors.
