After the deep freeze temperatures at the beginning of February, many plants around Walt Disney World were impacted. This includes big trees like the banyan tree in front of Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. After being trimmed back in April, it now appears healthy and strong once again.
Animal Kingdom Banyan Tree

As you can see above, the leaves were dead by March after the February freeze, and many of the banyan’s branches were bare or just starting to sprout more foliage again back in April.
Banyan trees are not particularly hardy trees and prefer warm temperatures. Although they can survive a brief cold snap, this can result in slow recovery or stunted growth.

Now that Disney was able to trim it down and allow it time to grow, it appears healthy and strong. It’s full of leaves again and ready to serve as a backdrop for your PhotoPass photos.
