New Orleans Square Train Station

Disneyland filed a permit for the reconstruction of the demolished radio house at the New Orleans Square train station.

The building, which is across from the guest-accessible station platform, caught fire overnight on December 28, 2022. Nobody was hurt but the radio house (on the far right in the above picture) was irrevocably damaged. It was surrounded by scrim and scaffolding but Disney didn’t touch the building for years. Finally, in 2025, they tore it down.

The permit is for a “New Commercial Construction” at the New Orleans Square train station. It will be a 357 square foot break room building with a restroom, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.

Disney filed the permit in November 2025 but it was made public recently after being officially issued.

The old building also operated as a Cast Member break room. Along with the rest of the train station, it was based on a set from the 1948 Disney film “So Dear to My Heart.” Walt wanted to use the original movie set but animator Ward Kimball did not want to return it after Walt had given it to him. The replica was built instead. It appears in The American Adventure attraction at EPCOT during the “Two Brothers” segment.
