Swift's song for Toy Story 5 was announced on June 1 after much speculation. It was inspired by Jessie, and goes back to her story that was first shown in Toy Story 2.

Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 director, said, “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story. So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.”

The movie releases in theaters on June 19, which is also the 20th anniversary of Swift’s debut album. Toy Story 5 follows the introduction of Lilypad, an electronic device, into Bonnie’s life. Her attention is then diverted from the classic ensemble of toys previously belonging to Andy.
