Toy Story 5, which comes to theaters today, has just become the top preview film of the year. This is determined by how much its previews made at the box office.
Toy Story 5 Box Office Preview

According to Variety, Toy Story 5 raked in $17.5 million in previews at the box office. That made it the top preview film of the year, though not the highest for Pixar. Incredibles 2 in 2018 managed to make $18.5 million during previews.
The second-highest preview box office so far in 2026 was Michael with $12.6 million.
Toy Story 5 is expected to have a record-breaking opening weekend at the box office. Boxoffice Pro’s latest prediction is that the film will hit between $160-$175 million this weekend.
For reference, here is how the other Toy Story universe films have done opening weekend in the U.S. (not accounting for inflation):
- Lightyear: $50.5 million
- Toy Story 4: $120.9 million
- Toy Story 3: $110.3 million
- Toy Story 2: $80.8 million
- Toy Story: $29.1 million
To date, Incredibles 2 (2018) is Pixar’s highest-grossing opening weekend film, which earned $182.6 million in its first domestic weekend. That record is followed by Finding Dory (2016) with $135 million, and then Toy Story 4 (2019).
Toy Story 5 merchandise collaborations include pet toys and costumes, Build-A-Bear sets, and Clove shoes. Taylor Swift has a song in the new film called “I Knew It, I Knew You,” which has already broken streaming records.
