New Marc Davis Inspired Scenes Finally Debut on Frontierland River in Disneyland Paris

As we reported last week, new animal scenes have opened along the Rivers of the Far West at Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing at Disneyland Paris. These scenes had been delayed but announced by the park last year.

These new scenes have been added over the last few weeks, but are now in full view of guests at Disneyland Paris. Original sketches from Disney Legend Marc Davis inspired the new scenes.

Davis was one of Disney’s “Nine Old Men,” a group of animators who worked at Walt Disney Productions in its early years. Davis joined Disney in 1935, starting as an animator on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He later moved to WED and worked on such attractions as Jungle Cruise, Enchanted Tiki Room, Carousel of Progress, “it’s a small world,” The Haunted Mansion, and Country Bear Jamboree.

The new figures, including a buffalo on a prairie and raccoons and a skunk on a floating log, have been specially redesigned and produced for the project by Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teams. Another scene features several deer gathered along a rocky stream.

Guests can catch a glimpse of these new additions while enjoying a cruise aboard the Molly Brown boat, which has recently been renovated from stem to stern.

Here are some of the concept sketches of what these scenes would entail:
