VIDEO: Walt Disney Imagineering Used Motion Capture to Bring Scooter Audio-Animatronic to Life, First Time Used on a Muppet

Sure, Walt Disney Imagineering is no stranger to using motion capture for audio animatronics. But Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets was the first time they ever used it with a Muppet!

Scooter Motion Capture

In the latest video from Walt Disney Imagineering, Dani Iglesias, creative director at The Muppets Studio, shares behind the scenes looks at how they brought Scooter to life at Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. As you can see above, they added motion capture equipment to him just as they would a regular human to calculate exactly how he moves, thanks to puppeteer David Rudman.

In the latest video from Walt Disney Imagineering, Dani Iglesias, creative director at The Muppets Studio, shares behind the scenes looks at how they brought the animatronic Scooter to life at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

As you can see above, they added motion capture equipment to him just as they would a regular human to calculate exactly how he moves, thanks to puppeteer David Rudman.

In order to do the motion capture, they actually built Scooter a miniature capture suit and then had his puppeteer, Rudman, work his magic. Because of this technology, the animatronic that guests see at Rock 'n' Roller Coaster has all the movements and mannerisms of a Muppet being puppeteered right in front of their eyes.
