Pipes have been installed in the ground throughout the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park, currently under construction at Magic Kingdom. Work also continues on the retaining wall separating the new area from the rest of Frontierland.

The pipes are several feet tall, but of course will be masked by walls and buildings once construction is complete in a few years. Blue pipes are typically for incoming water.

Purple pipes are typically for outgoing and reclaimed water.

Dozens more blue pipes are awaiting installation near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. They sit among large concrete drain pipes also staged for future installation.

From the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad queue, we got a good look at the entire retaining wall. It runs from Big Thunder around the current edge of Frontierland (the Cars area will be an expansion of the land) to the former Liberty Square Riverboat Landing.

The wall starts tall near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and varies in height as it runs most of the perimeter. Disney has promised that car architecture will not be visible from other areas of the park.

The wall varies in height significantly, from only a few feet off the ground near the Frontierland boardwalk to its highest points of at least 20 feet.

A new section of retaining wall is still under construction next to the Riverboat Landing. This part appears to be nearly as tall as the building, which will remain intact, as seen in the “fun map” below. The area of this taller section approximately corresponds to where the waterfall is on the fun map.

The retaining wall follows the outline of the land’s future river, a somewhat similar path as the former Rivers of America.
