All of the new entrance columns have been removed, and more trim is being added to the restroom building in Monstropolis.

Monstropolis Updates

After we first noticed decorative trim being added to the bathroom building a few days ago, even more appears to have been done since.

While it is difficult to see with the scrim draping, the archways around the windows are getting a monstrous treatment. The white trim around them has triangular spikes on the top which resemble horns. But decorative trim has also appeared beyond the windows. As you can see above, there are decorative elements on the beams to make them look like steel, and the trim at the top is scalloped.

Imagineers are also hard at work remodeling the theater building into The Glob. We can’t see the front of the building anymore to discern the work being done, but we did spot an Imagineering tent in the top-left corner.

Although one column remained standing on our last update, none of the entrance columns are up anymore. Disney is either making a design change or there has been an error in the column placement.

On June 9, we reported that aerial photos of the new column placement revealed a major design change from the concept art.

In the concept art for Monstropolis, the entrance will have four columns, two tall ones and two short ones, with planters on both sides. In the artwork, these columns are parallel to the main walkway to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The aerial photos showing the columns taking shape showed a distinct change from the drawing.

The frameworks and forms for the columns, in the aerial photo above on June 9, showed that the column placements are at a 45-degree angle to the walkway and not parallel.

Presumably, a decision was made to divert from the original plans, an error in placement was made, or a structural problem was found that required their demolition.

Monstropolis

Monstropolis will be the first land based on Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently revealed that the land’s story will center on H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” a celebration welcoming humans into Monstropolis after the events of the original film.

The project includes the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, Harryhausen’s, and The Glob theater. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Monstropolis.
