The future entrance to Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has undergone a major change, with three of the four newly constructed concrete columns now removed. The removal of the columns comes only weeks after their installation.
Monstropolis Restrooms

Additional decorative trim work has been installed on the exterior of the Monstropolis restrooms since yesterday. These are the first monster-themed elements we have seen.
Above the leftmost arched window, a monster-inspired piece of white trim can be seen, with triangle spikes resembling monster horns.

A worker is carrying the next pre-fabricated piece of themed trim to be installed above another window. These trim pieces are made of lightweight foam and will be later covered and textured in cement to mimic real masonry.
Entrance Columns
There continue to be changes with the new columns at the land’s future entrance. After the former Muppets Courtyard walls and columns were removed, four new concrete columns were constructed. Strangely, in our image below from July 15, one of the columns was missing, and another one had been shortened.
In the image above from July 15th, the innermost column on the left was removed, and the innermost column on the right was made shorter.

As of today, only one column remains. Three of the four columns have been completely removed, leaving only the one on the far left, as seen in the above photo.

Disney is either making a design change or there has been an error in the column placement. We suspect that this last remaining column will also have the same fate as the other three.
On June 9, we reported that aerial photos of the new column placement revealed a major design change from the concept art.

In the concept art for Monstropolis, the entrance will have four columns, two tall ones and two short ones, with planters on both sides. In the artwork, these columns are parallel to the main walkway to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The aerial photos showing the columns taking shape showed a distinct change from the drawing.

The frameworks and forms for the columns, in the aerial photo above on June 9, showed that the column placements are at a 45-degree angle to the walkway and not parallel.
Presumably, a decision was made to divert from the original plans, an error in placement was made, or a structural problem was found that required their demolition.
Monstropolis

Monstropolis will be the first land based on Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently revealed that the land’s story will center on H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” a celebration welcoming humans into Monstropolis after the events of the original film.
The project includes the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, Harryhausen’s, and The Glob theater. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Monstropolis.
