Fans of the Toy Story gang have shown their support for the decades-old franchise, which now extends to a box office gross of $1 billion (and beyond) for Toy Story 5.

‘Toy Story 5’ Crosses $1 Billion at Global Box Office

According to Variety, Toy Story 5 reached the billion-dollar milestone approximately five weeks after opening in theaters. It began its run with $160 million domestically and $312 million worldwide, setting a franchise opening-weekend record.

Toy Story 5 is the third film in the series to surpass $1 billion, following Toy Story 3 in 2010 and Toy Story 4 in 2019. Impressively, no other animated film franchise has produced three separate billion-dollar installments.

The sequel joins an increasingly crowded group of animated blockbusters that have passed the mark. Other members include Disney’s Frozen, Frozen II, Zootopia, Zootopia 2, Finding Dory, Incredibles 2, Inside Out 2, and Moana 2, as well as non-Disney movies Minions, Despicable Me 3, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Toy Story 5 is Disney’s strongest new theatrical release of 2026 so far. Other releases have experienced mixed results: The Devil Wears Prada 2 became a major hit with approximately $690 million worldwide, while Pixar’s original film Hoppers finished with about $383 million.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu earned roughly $345 million globally, becoming the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars film, while Disney’s live-action Moana has collected about $191 million worldwide through its first few weeks of release.

Toy Story 5 is also the third film released in 2026 to reach $1 billion, following The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the Michael Jackson biopic Michael.
