Beams for the carousel roof have been installed, the section of mountain range framework is all in place, and more construction work is progressing at the future Tropical Americas land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Tropical Americas Mountain Range & Carousel

Crews began creating the mountain range just over a week ago. Sitting atop the Encanto ride building, the skeletal framework for this mountain section is now fully defined, although its rocky exterior still needs to be added. The shape of the rockwork is made from metal mesh.

On the Tropical Americas model, you can see the mountain range in the upper left corner, behind the Casita facade.

We are uncertain if this will be the only mountain range section or if others have yet to be started, as the size, shape, and location of the installed mountains differ slightly from the concept art.

In the foreground of our above photo is the roof of the carousel, which now has slanted beams creating a circular peaked roof.

At the top of the roof is a boxy framework surrounded by short steel beams. These are the beginnings of a second, smaller roof, as seen in the concept art below.

The carousel will consist of wood-carved Disney animals, including Kevin from Up.

Tropical Americas North Entrance

At the north entrance to the land, there is now scaffolding around the short concrete walls. A tree was planted among these walls a few weeks ago.

A few hours after our initial check on Thursday, we saw crew members had added rebar to the top of one of the entrance columns. The rebar is twisted to create the future shape of the additional concrete.

Tropical Americas is set to open in 2027 and will consist of the fictional village of Pueblo Esperanza, featuring the carousel and Encanto ride. DINOSAUR is being reimagined into an Indiana Jones ride. There will also be a new playground.
