After closing earlier this summer, Tortuga Tavern is set to return to operations as a quick-service dining location this week at Magic Kingdom.
Tortuga Tavern Reopening at Magic Kingdom, No Longer a Gift Shop
According to the Walt Disney World Resort website, Tortuga Tavern will reopen to guests on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The venue serves American-style fare, including Barbecued Pork Sandwiches, Orange Chicken Strips, and more.
The venue normally operates seasonally, but has been closed since June 2024. From August to November 2024, the location was temporarily transformed into Tortuga Treasures, a retail space that operated while Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, the exit gift shop for Pirates of the Caribbean, was under refurbishment. Captain Jack Sparrow’s meet-and-greet location was moved to the tavern earlier this summer.
Meanwhile, work continues on the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge, which will occupy the space of the former transformation experience The Pirates League, which permanently closed in 2020. Steel frames for new walls went up in mid-November, followed by sheathing and concrete in December. Most recently, those concrete walls were painted with a new stone-like texturing.
The new venue is scheduled to open in late 2025, and will expand the lore of Pirates of the Caribbean. It will also reintroduce Peg-Leg Pete, a.k.a. the Barker Bird who was once stationed outside the attraction. New concept art was released in November 2024.
