What’s new at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Well, let’s take a look in the updated guidemap and see!
New Hollywood Studios Map, App Updates
They’re finally using the 30th Anniversary logo in print! They started putting up banners earlier this month, so this is nice to see. Hopefully merchandise is right around the corner.
While we had heard conflicting reports, it appears that Pixar Place will continue to be called “Pixar Place”, even though they took the Pixar sign down several months ago.
The app still isn’t updated yet, though. They seem to have astro-turfed the entire street.
An Incredible Celebration Continues
The jumbotron on the side of the Hyperion Theater near the front of the park has little plugs for the new “Incredibles” offerings.
Jack-Jack is back-back!
Look who we found! Jack-Jack finally has made an appearance at An Incredible Celebration, albeit almost two weeks late. There was supposed to be some sort of interactive scavenger hunt surrounding the super baby, but management says it’s still delayed.
He’s Super cute though. (Pun very much intended.)
You can even see where his laser vision caused some concrete damage. Nice touch.
Construction Round-Up
The old DVC booth on Commissary Lane (across from Sci-Fi Dine-In) is completely gone now.
All that’s left behind is a big ol’ hole. Expect this to disappear soon also.
Here’s the new DVC booth just down the way, if you hadn’t seen it yet. You can find this on Grand Avenue, between the Star Tours exit and Muppet*Vision 3D.
Outside the park, work continues on the new tram loop and security checkpoint. Looks like quite the sloppy track after all the rain this weekend.
They were starting to pour concrete today. There seems to be quite a way to go, however.
The old reliable restrooms over by Guest Relations closed recently. You can see why. Looks like they’re reworking all the concrete in the area.
Fear not, however. If you need to use the restroom, you can use the shiny new ones over between the Skyliner station and the new bus loop. I say shiny and new, but it looks like someone already broke the entrance. Plywood walls were up this morning.
Speaking of the bus loop, it’s looking good! Painting is about halfway done on the two shelters closest to the parking lot. They also have mountings up for new signage.
They’ve also started installing the gate numbers! Looks classy.
The Skyliner is officially in testing now. I didn’t see any gondolas moving this morning, but they were testing the cables themselves. They do move!
I’m looking forward to seeing these gondolas in all their character-sticker-covered glory later this year.
Say Goodbye to Hollywood
I took time out of my busy day to say goodbye to the Planet Hollywood Super Store on Sunset Blvd. This relic of days gone by will be closing at the end of the week.
They seem to have given up on neon sign maintenance (add it to the list). Not that I blame them. If you’ve never been in here, do yourself a favor and check it out. It’s surreal.
Goodbye, Planet Hollywood Super Store. Though I can’t say I’ll really miss you.
Well, that about wraps it up for today’s Hollywood Studios Photo Report! Stay tuned for more Skyliner updates and whether we’ll ever get that Jack-Jack scavenger hunt.
The app is updated you just have to zoom all the way in.
