New Scaffolding Rises Up Near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Walt Disney World

Since our last construction update, new scaffolding has risen up next to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom as its refurbishment continues.

New Scaffolding Next to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

In our last update, we saw the construction walls around Big Thunder Mountain Railroad expand outward as the ride continues testing. Now, a new scaffolding structure is clearly visible near the loading stations.

A notable amount of scaffolding was removed late last year, and just as we predicted, the construction crews are starting work on the guest-accessible sections of the mountain.

Golden Spike Ceremony

Walt Disney World recently celebrated a milestone in the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment with a golden spike ceremony, an old tradition in American railroad construction, to commemorate the completely rebuilt steel track.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been closed at Walt Disney World for a year as Imagineers gave the classic ride a complete refurbishment. The coaster has new ride vehicles that have been testing, refreshed Audio-Animatronics, gold props, and an updated Rainbow Caverns opening scene.

The reimagined Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen this spring.
