REVIEW: I’ve Got A Dream and It Isn’t The New Tangled Éclair at Pinocchio Village Haus in The Magic Kingdom

I’ve got a dream! I’ve got a dream! And it ain’t this Tangled Éclair. (Which is unfortunate, given how lovely it is.)

First, let’s set up the story. The Tangled Éclair is part of a whole new slew of desserts available at the Magic Kingdom and is available exclusively at Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom for $5.99. (Available through June.)

Tangled Éclair is filled with dulce de leche and topped with white chocolate whipped cream, sugar flowers, and a chocolate frying pan.

While it doesn’t quite look as advertised, it’s still a really cute dessert.

The choux pastry is topped with yellow white chocolate whipped cream, and white, blue, and yellow sugar flowers, akin to Rapunzel’s long, flower-studded, braided hair.

The tiny chocolate frying pan is what really does it for me. The fact that someone in pastry had to painstakingly make each little hollow cup and handle, then meld them together, is amazing.

Now, on to why we hate it so much. Long story short, it’s way too sweet.

Despite being billed as a white chocolate cream, the cream itself doesn’t have much flavor to it at all. The dulce de leche is a bit dense for an eclair as well. Traditional chocolate ganache might’ve worked better here, to be honest.

The choux pastry is studded with big granules of purple sugar, which adds some crunch, but at the cost of also adding more unnecessary sweetness.

The general concensus amongst those of us trying it was that the eclair really needed some kind of fresh fruit on top to lighten things up. Rapunzel would’ve topped these with strawberries. Or at least Attilla would’ve. (His cupcakes are sublime, after all.)

If you’re looking for a treat to gussy up the ‘gram, for $5.99, this isn’t a bad deal. If you’re really into dulce de leche, this might not be a bad choice, either. (Although you’re arguably better off getting the dulce de leche sundae at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. Pick your poison.) Otherwise, steer clear of this lovely, yet overly sweet treat.
