Everything You Need to Know: Savi’s Workshop
Tucked away in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a place where you might be drawn if you are one with the Force. If you make your way through the Black Spire Outpost, you may seek out Savi’s Workshop, the covert outpost of the Gatherers.
WHO: The Gatherers
The Gatherers are a group of men and women who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of the Force and the ancient ways of the Jedi. They guide those who seek their assistance in creating their own unique, customized lightsaber. You can read more about our own lightsaber-building experience here!
The Gatherers have amassed a great collection of stories, kyber crystals, and other saber parts from around the galaxy. As “keepers of the Force,” they have passed down their knowledge from generation to generation, striving to keep the flame of hope alive.
WHERE: Savi’s Workshop
Savi’s Workshop is next to Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities in Galaxy’s Edge. Those ready to learn this knowledge will find a symbol displayed on the front of the workshop indicating that they are in the correct location.
Savi was one of the original Gatherers and a friend to Lor San Tekka (whom we met briefly at the beginning of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”). Like Lor, Savi was a believer in the ideals of the Jedi Order and helped to pass on his knowledge of Jedi lore. He created a salvage business as a front to hide his clandestine mission of guiding the next generation of Force wielders and helping them create their unique lightsabers.
As you approach the workshop, you may find that lines have already formed outside the area. Keep in mind that you should run here at the beginning of your reservation if you want to wait the shortest amount of time for this experience. That being said, we still lost two hours in the total experience doing this.
The line culminates at this set of registers, where you pay for the experience in advance and secure a reservation return time and corresponding pin (more on that later.) Upon returning, you are directed to a holding area. The total price for the experience, with tax, comes out to $215.49.
Just like everywhere else in Galaxy’s Edge, this a living, breathing storytelling environment.
If the First Order shows up, the Gatherers manning the point of sale cease all activity, so as to not raise suspicion.
WHAT: Build Your Own Lightsabers
There’s plenty to look at while you wait, with cabinets and placards displaying parts of each of the four lightsaber themes available for you to browse. Which one will call to you?
Kyber Crystals
Kyber Crystals are what fuel a lightsaber. These Force-attuned crystals are scattered across the galaxy and as part of their training to become a Jedi, the younglings would often go out and mine their own crystals to build their own lightsaber.
Each Kyber Crystal is unique in cut and color.
Lightsabers
There are four different themes of lightsabers that can be built, depending on the Builder’s desired path:
Power and Control: Reclaimed from the ashes of the rumored Sith homeworld and abandoned Sith temples, these lightsaber pieces were originally forged by the Sith of their time. Characterized by sharp and strong forms, these pieces showcase the brutality and relentlessness of the Sith’s insatiable desire for power and control.
Protection and Defense: Cultivated from a time forgotten, these earliest lightsaber pieces contain designs and inscriptions that are shrouded in mystery. Believed to be created for protection and defense, conferring anonymity and symbolizing emotional detachment, a lightsaber made from these pieces reconnects the user with the most ancient wellspring of the Force.
Peace and Justice: Salvaged from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships, these lightsaber pieces were created for Force wielders of the Republic era. The simple designs reflect the commitment to the devout life of those whom they were created by – the Jedi Order – the once guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.
Elemental Nature: As we have been told, The Force is an energy field created by all living things; it surrounds us, penetrates us and binds the galaxy together. These lightsaber pieces are born of that same Force. They are as unique as the user and as the elements of nature: the wood as strong as metal from a Brylark tree, a bone of the Cartusion whale or even a tooth from a Rancor.
Each lightsaber is be presented to the Builder in pieces, and with the help of the Gatherers, they’re able to assemble their own custom lightsaber. Upon hilt completion, the unused parts will be collected by the Gatherers and returned to Savi’s inventory. These are not included with your lightsaber package.
Finally, the Gatherers will masterfully connect your hilt to a 36” lightsaber blade so you’re ready for anything the galaxy puts in your path! If desired, full-length padded carrying cases are available for those who purchase optional blades.
If you’re looking for a specific character’s unique lightsaber, don’t worry. A series of 10 legacy lightsabers and holocrons based on Star Wars canon will also be sold at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.

Now Padawan, are you better prepared to craft and wield your own lightsaber?
$200, think I’ll pass. Rather get Salicious Crumb doll.
The Black Series lightsabers run around $150, have a great replica quality and feel to them but are not customizeable, nor do they have detachable blades. To have the same quality of saber and be able to experience this level of immersion, the extra $50 is totally worth it.
