REVIEW: New Char Siu Pork with Sticky Rice Will Have You Roaring For More at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
We’re making some stops around Disney’s Animal Kingdom today for the Tasting Sampler event, which is available at the park through January 4, 2020. We finally found ourselves in Asia near the home of Maharajah Jungle Trek. But before we explored for tigers and water buffalo, we needed some sustenance — and Char Siu Pork with Sticky Rice hit the spot.
Char Siu Pork with Sticky Rice can be purchased at Caravan Road in Asia at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
“Char siu” is of Cantonese origin and is essentially barbecue. So, why wait for Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Brews and Barbecue to open? You can get your barbecue fix (with flair!) at Walt Disney World now.
At Caravan Road, the thinly-sliced, marinated pork is topped with sesame seeds and fresh scallions. It is served with sticky rice, which is the rice used in sushi. Let’s dig in, already!
I’m not a big pork eater, but this was delicious! The pork is crispy and has a beef-like texture. The sauce is very flavorful and sweet, but also savory and not very spicy.
The Char Siu Pork with Sticky Rice is $6.29. Considering I got pretty full after eating, I’d say the price point is fair.
Note that the menu at DisneyWorld.com for Caravan Road is currently out-of-date. We originally visited looking for tuna, but it’s not currently served here.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Tasting Sampler
The pork is part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Tasting Sampler, which we reviewed when it originally launched in April. While you’re at the event, you can also grab a dessert like the Spaghetti and Meatball Cupcake.
When purchasing the sampler, you get a guide.
Details and the map help you navigate to the participating locations.
